About this video
Executing a Berimbolo from the closed guard begins with the opponent standing up. Secure a cross collar grip immediately as they rise. Open the closed guard and re-clamp it just above their knees to establish a leg clamp position.
- With the opponent's legs trapped, preventing them from posting, use the right hand on the collar to pull them down to the mat.
- Keep the feet crossed and decide whether to maintain the collar grip or reach for the belt to go inverted.
- Options from the inverted position include rolling backwards to transition into mount or rolling forward to expose the opponent's back, securing it by controlling the back of the collar.
- The leg clamp position, initiated from closed guard, provides strong control and limits the opponent's movement, allowing for a transition to the back or mount without releasing the clamp until the final position is secured.
This technique is effective and can be frustrating for the opponent, as it offers a seamless transition from a controlled closed guard to a dominant leg clamp, and finally to a mount or back take.
