About this video
Transitioning from ashi garami to a double leg takedown with a reaping motion:
- Start in ashi garami and initiate a reap by raising the hips and rotating inward, extending the leg to prevent the opponent from crowding you.
- If the opponent opens their hip to counter the reap, it creates space and prevents their knee from blocking your movement.
- Use this opportunity to build up to a seated position, keeping in mind the alignment of your foot, knee, hip, and shoulder to maintain a strong structure.
- As you come up, be mindful of the opponent's movements and maintain control of their hands to prevent them from standing up.
- Avoid the urge to go behind the opponent, as skilled practitioners can counter and force you to wrestle them down.
- Instead, focus on connecting your hands for a locked double leg takedown, pulling the opponent's hips underneath you and securing a body lock.
- Complete the transition by putting the opponent on their back, which can lead to a dominant position or a potential match-winning scenario.
