About this video
Transitioning from K-Guard to one leg X involves several key steps to effectively manipulate the opponent's balance and secure the position:
- Begin in an open guard and work towards establishing the K-Guard, maintaining good alignment and keeping hands up to manage the distance between you and your opponent.
- Choose to attack either the near side or far side leg. The position allows for ambidextrous attacks, and you can navigate to the far side by hooking the opponent's leg and spinning through.
- Move the opponent around to assess their base and push them towards the corners where they lack balance. If the opponent stands tall, move them back to force a change in their body positioning.
- When the opponent starts to press forward, draw them down to break their balance, keeping their weight on their back leg.
- Raise the lead leg up, let your foot come across, pivot to the side, and transition into the one leg X position.
- For better control, get elbow deep on the grip rather than just at the wrist to prevent the opponent from unwinding.
- Continue to play with the opponent's balance, looking for the direction that causes them to stumble, and then pass off into one leg X.
