About this video
Utilizing Reverse De La Riva to transition into one leg X-guard involves a series of strategic movements and grips:
- Start by using Reverse De La Riva as a counter when the opponent raises their knee.
- Align your feet, knees, hips, and shoulders properly. Use your right hand to check the opponent's forearm to prevent cross-facing and your left hand to control the center or the opponent's elbow.
- Avoid reaching under the opponent's leg as a crutch for spinning. Instead, focus on checking the bicep and using body positioning to navigate through the space.
- When the opponent presses in, use your hands to help spin behind them. Use your left hand on their second leg and your left foot to go past the short hook to control them.
- Keep the opponent's weight on their trailing leg to prevent them from settling and squishing you.
- When ready to transition to one leg X, lift the near side leg up, tipping the opponent's weight into their back leg.
- Make a slight adjustment, if necessary, using your left foot on the opponent's leg to pivot. Work to the side, bringing your right knee to the center.
- Thread your left foot through to establish one leg X-guard, ensuring the opponent's lead leg is slightly off the mat.
- Maintain control and keep the opponent's weight off their far leg as you settle into the position.
This sequence allows for a smooth transition from Reverse De La Riva to one leg X-guard while maintaining control and off-balancing the opponent throughout the movement.
