About this video

Utilizing the short hook from a Reverse De La Riva position to transition to a back attack:

  1. Start from Reverse De La Riva, pressuring the opponent and transitioning to X-guard.
  2. Lift the opponent's leg to move to the short hook position, potentially threatening with omoplata or other submissions.
  3. Look for an opening to attack the back by slipping the left hand under the opponent's ankle and doubling up the grip.
  4. Keep the opponent's weight tilted towards their back leg, using blocks to prevent them from repressing.
  5. Transition the right arm under the opponent's leg while rotating to the left hip, maintaining the weight distribution.
  6. Extend the right foot and slip the left foot underneath the opponent, drawing them off their base and assessing their response.
  7. If the opponent pulls away, execute a technical stand-up to the left knee. If not, draw them into your lap and work to get your feet behind theirs.
  8. Pull the opponent back over space, fighting their hands, threading hooks, and assessing their defense.
  9. Control one hand and if the opponent defends the neck, insert the second hook and transition to a body triangle.
  10. Combine movements and attacks, such as building, showing omoplata, looking for reaps, and transitioning to calf slicers, to find the short hook and work towards the back.
  11. Once behind the opponent, be ready to switch feet and manipulate their balance to find openings for hooks.
  12. Be diligent about maintaining good head position and working towards points or a body triangle, depending on the competition structure.
  13. Stay open-minded to the opponent's responses during transitions, allowing for creativity and adaptation.
