About this video
Transitioning from reverse De La Riva to Single Leg X (SLX) involves carving underneath the opponent's leg and passing it through to establish SLX. From there, reaping the knee is essential to prevent the opponent from crowding and to set up for a footlock or to use the position to score.
- While reaping, blade the body to sit up effectively and use the left hand to alleviate the opponent's weight.
- Transition to a technical stand-up, pushing off the left foot and securing the opponent's hip to maintain control.
- Keep a connection with the ribs to the opponent's leg to prevent them from slipping out.
- When rising, balance driving off the ground with the need to stop the opponent from advancing.
- Allow the opponent's foot to pass through, then move to the backside of their turtle position, securing double underhooks.
- Press into the opponent from a strong base, taking them off balance and rotating them over the left hand for a spiral turn.
- Explore different directions to off-balance the opponent, looking for weak points in their base.
- Once the opponent is off balance, transition to the back, ensuring shoulders are aligned and control is established over the far shoulder.
- Choose an appropriate leg configuration, such as a body triangle or crossed feet, based on body type and rule set.
- Secure the seatbelt grip and manage the opponent's defenses, sliding hooks in to score points.
- Lengthen the legs rather than squeezing to avoid the opponent reaching the heels and to maintain control.
Throughout the transition, maintaining connections and controlling the opponent's balance are key to successfully navigating to the back and securing the position for potential submissions or points.
