About this video
Transitioning from De La Riva to OneLegX involves maintaining proper body alignment and control over the opponent's ankle. The following steps outline the process:
- Start in De La Riva guard, ensuring your foot, knee, hip, and shoulder are aligned. Control the opponent's ankle with various grips, but standardly grab the ankle.
- Use your right hand to check your knee, creating a reinforced frame, or to monitor and manage the distance with your opponent.
- When the opponent steps over your De La Riva hook, be mindful of their balance. Avoid pushing towards their posting leg as it's difficult to off-balance them in that direction.
- Instead, check the opponent backward to see if they resist. If they do, they'll likely shift their weight back, which you can use to lift them overhead.
- Keep the opponent's weight off the mat, focusing on disrupting their balance by keeping their weight off their posting leg.
- If the opponent uses their hand to check you, incentivize them to post it on the mat by lifting slightly, making them choose between posting or face planting.
- Once they post, check the arm, circle your left foot underneath, and place your left foot on their hip while your right foot finds their other leg.
- Maintain the opponent's weight off in the corner, subtly lifting your hips to keep their heel off the mat without overdoing it.
- Hook behind the opponent's butt, right up the middle, and move them overhead while watching for their posting hand.
- If the hand is in the way, incentivize the post by threatening their balance, then check the arm, circle your left leg through, and establish the OneLegX position with your foot on their hip and their weight kept on their back leg.
