About this video

Attacking an outside calf slicer to transition into a matrix style back take:

  1. Start in Single Leg X (1X) guard position.
  2. Allow the right leg to creep across the opponent's body.
  3. Unlock the legs, post on hands, and scoot back, allowing the left foot to fall towards the center.
  4. Attempt to wrap the hands around the opponent's hips, ideally securing an S-grip for control.
  5. Fall towards the inside shoulder, which will likely cause the opponent to straighten their trapped leg to alleviate knee torque.
  6. As the opponent straightens their leg, pull the left leg around to end up directly underneath them.
  7. Extend the legs to draw the opponent into your lap, aiming to land with both feet hooked behind the opponent's legs.
  8. Pull the opponent back slightly and begin to threaten their defensive resources while threading in hooks during the transition.
  9. Stay attuned to the opponent's defensive responses, such as hand placements, and adjust accordingly.
  10. Ensure that when transitioning, the shin and knee are kept in line with the opponent to avoid being leg dragged.
  11. Stay connected to the opponent's near side leg, extend to sit them off, and find the hooks to secure the back take.
  12. Remember that movements are interconnected; as you move, the opponent moves, so maintain a strong attachment.
