About this video
Executing a double leg takedown from the Single Leg X position involves timing and understanding your opponent's weight distribution. Begin in the Single Leg X guard, with your foot on the opponent's hip and controlling the center. Move your opponent to manipulate their balance.
- Wait for the moment when your opponent's weight shifts off of you, indicating the perfect time to transition into the double leg takedown.
- Remove your left foot from the opponent's hip. If their knee blocks you, either drag it by quickly or use a reap to open their knee.
- Connect your shoulder to the opponent's hip and reach your left arm through to find their second leg.
- Execute a technical stand-up to your knee, focusing on bringing your opponent down to the mat rather than lifting them up.
- Anticipate the opponent's response post-takedown. If they concede to their back, secure the position. If they attempt to stand up, transition to a body lock.
- Pull the opponent's hips towards you and use your shoulder to flatten them over your inside arm, maintaining balance and preventing them from regaining their base.
- As you land, creep to the side to encourage the opponent to set a guard, allowing you to stabilize and score points.
- If the opponent goes flat on their back, you can work to pass their guard. If they show intent to stand up, pull their hips towards you as you walk to the side, driving with your shoulder to keep them flat and secure your position.
Throughout the technique, be mindful of your balance and the opponent's potential movements. Use your shoulder effectively to control their hips and secure the takedown, leading to advantageous positions and scoring opportunities.
