About this video
Establishing a standard Single Leg X (SLX) position involves the following key components:
- Place one foot on the opponent's hip to control distance and manage their movement.
- Ensure the knee of the same leg is checking the center line to prevent the opponent from crowding you.
- Position the other foot across the opponent's far leg to maintain control and balance.
- Keep both hands in between you and the opponent for defense and to manage space.
- Use the shin and foot that are under the opponent to lift and manipulate their weight.
- The hand on the same side as the foot on the hip should check the opponent's hand, keeping it on the mat and away from your controlling foot and hip.
- The opposite hand acts as a floater, which can be used for various purposes such as transitioning to a normal X-guard, attacking foot locks, or other adjustments as needed.
Each element of the SLX position serves a specific purpose, from blocking and controlling to lifting and transitioning, providing a solid foundation for offense and defense.
