About this video

Countering the roll from a reap in Single Leg X-Guard to score points:

  1. Transition to X-Guard and initiate a reap to attack the heel.
  2. If the opponent rolls to defend the footlock, follow their movement.
  3. Unwind the position, creating space to free your right foot.
  4. Perform a technical stand-up to extract your left foot, while keeping the opponent's foot shelved to prevent them from standing.
  5. As you come up, secure an underhook with your right hand underneath the opponent's back.
  6. Depending on the opponent's reaction, either connect your hands or go palms up to rotate them into the underhook and settle into the position.
  7. If the opponent latches onto your back leg, continue to move forward and work to free your knee.
  8. Maintain your weight over the opponent's shoulder to prevent being swept.
  9. Use the back of your hamstring or your left hand to help free your leg if needed.
  10. Complete the guard pass by unwinding and timing the movement as the opponent rolls.
