About this video

Counter resistance from the double grip arm drag involves following the opponent's movement to gain a superior position. When attempting to drag the opponent forward and encountering resistance, instead of continuing to pull, use their backward momentum to come up and chase their back.

  1. Establish a double grip on the opponent's arm.
  2. If the opponent resists the forward drag by pulling back, use this opportunity to stand up with them.
  3. As you rise, maintain a tight head position and step over to cover their back.
  4. Insert the near side hook immediately as you catch their back.
  5. Adjust your position to secure the second hook.
  6. From here, you can look for finishing options such as a rear naked choke or a gi choke, depending on the situation.
  7. If the opponent postures up, you can also pass your foot across and secure a leg hug.

This technique allows you to capitalize on the opponent's resistance, enabling you to transition from a failed drag to taking the back and setting up submissions.
