About this video
Executing the Margarida Sweep from the collar drag position involves several key steps:
- Start in the collar drag position, ready to execute the drag, with the opponent sitting heavy, hips on their heels.
- Tip the opponent's hip forward just enough to place the ball of your foot over their Achilles tendon. The foot should not be too deep, and the opponent may not even notice it.
- Position your base leg (the one closest to the mat) a bit further from your opponent for stability.
- Grab the outside of the opponent's knee with your hand.
- Execute the sweep by punching the collar grip to make the opponent's chin look away, using knuckles for a deep grip or wrist for a shallower grip.
- Pull with the knee grip and stand up, driving the opponent's weight towards the corner where your foot is blocking their base leg.
- Continue driving the opponent over, locking down their base leg with your weight, and prepare to pass their guard.
- Decide whether to pass by putting your foot to the inside or going around the opponent's leg.
This sweep is effective against defensive opponents and allows you to transition into a dominant position for guard passing.
