About this video
Executing an Omoplata from the double drag position:
- Perform the double drag, moving yourself out of the way as your opponent's arm goes across your body or to the outside.
- If the arm ends up outside your body without weight behind it, push the opponent's head away or spin their elbow to prevent them from recovering and applying weight on you.
- Use your outside leg to sweep over their arm, aiming to contact their armpit or shoulder with the heavy part of your leg between your hip and knee.
- Ensure you maintain control of the opponent's elbow to prevent losing the arm during the motion.
- Extract your bottom leg from under their weight, keeping your leg heavy to prevent them from rising.
- Engage in a race to get your hips higher and faster than your opponent's to gain the upper hand.
- Connect to the far shoulder to prevent the opponent from rolling away, using grips on the lapel or sleeve for control.
- Adjust your body, bringing your head close to theirs, and apply weight over their lower back to keep their hips down and secure the Omoplata.
- For the finish, ensure the opponent's hips remain down, and you can either bite down with your legs or maintain grips to prevent them from rebuilding their base.
- If facing an opponent with flexible shoulders, shift your grip lower on the arm and push the elbow to the mat, repositioning your leg over it to create a Kimura-like leverage.
- Drive the arm forward with your belly to increase the leverage on the shoulder attack, potentially adding a wrist lock.
Remember to maintain control throughout the transition to prevent the opponent from escaping or countering the submission attempt.
