About this video
Initiate the super drag from a standing position by first defending your lapels and then quickly climbing your opponent's lapel. If your opponent has a right leg lead and a lower stance, circle away to drag the corner of their body forward, prompting them to step.
- Maintain strong grips to stiff arm your opponent away from your legs, which is crucial in Jiu Jitsu where leg grabs are allowed.
- Bring your opponent forward and choose between two footwork patterns: a spinning Uchimata or a side kick (Pisao).
- For the Uchimata, step in and knock your opponent's leg out. Alternatively, for the Pisao, stomp your foot to the mat to bounce your opponent's foot off the floor, making that corner of their body light.
- After bringing your opponent forward, step back and snap both grips as if shaking sand out of a towel.
- Proceed to snap your opponent down and spin to your preferred side for back control. Other finishing options include attacking the arm or neck with the gi.
- During the hand fight, secure the gi either directly or cross-grip and climb it to ensure your opponent's leg comes forward. Use the Uchimata footwork to knock the weight out of their leg, then snap them forward.
For Jiu Jitsu contexts, the preference is to transition directly to the back after snapping the opponent down.
