About this video
Execute a same side drag when the opponent has grips on your pants and is moving, rather than being stationary. This technique is effective whether the opponent is on their knees, feet, or with one knee up.
- As the opponent starts to move, establish two grips over the top of their arms, grabbing the triceps. This prevents them from advancing their grips to your collar, underhook, or head.
- Wait for the opponent to commit their weight to one side. The timing is crucial and should be synchronized with their movement.
- As they commit to a side, post your same side hand on the mat in the direction they are moving to block their posting ability.
- Access your weight differently by placing your hand on the mat to lift your hip, then turn your hip over to your knees to keep the momentum going.
- Unlike other drags where you load to one side, maintain an even base here as you do not know which side the opponent will choose to move to.
- Once the opponent picks a side, post on the mat and turn your hip to follow through with the drag.
- After executing the drag, secure the seatbelt grip or, if the opponent gets up before you, tackle to end up on top.
- This drag allows for direct control of the arm, often enabling you to get behind the arm and onto the shoulders before the opponent can recover.
The same side drag is a dynamic move that capitalizes on the opponent's motion, allowing you to merge your hip movement with their weight shift to effectively off-balance and control them.
