About this video

Conceptualizing Jiu-Jitsu with the end goal of submission, the Rear Naked Choke (RNC) is emphasized as a premier technique for finishing the fight. The focus is on two sequences of back control: one from the strong side, where the top grip in the seatbelt is, and another from the opposite side.

  1. When controlling the back with hooks, make the opposite hook heavy to the side the opponent moves towards, aligning the hips and maintaining control.
  2. For the seatbelt grip, the choking arm should be a fist with no thumbs or fingers exposed, while the other hand covers the wrist of the choking arm to protect and preserve the choke.
  3. Keep the hands high to control the opponent's shoulder, with the elbow on or slightly behind their shoulder, ensuring the seatbelt can monitor shoulder movement effectively.
  4. On the strong side, the mat assists in positioning the arm for the choke, but control is heavily reliant on the seatbelt grip.
  5. For the RNC, ensure the opponent's chin is up and they are not controlling the choking arm. If these conditions are met, the choke can be applied directly.
  6. Use a hollow hand with fingertips to grip behind the top ridge of the scapula, and the second hand crosses over the wrist line to assist.
  7. Ensure the choking arm is deep enough, backed by the forearm bones, and the assist arm fits behind the head, ideally with the palm facing towards you.
  8. Close the head to the opponent's to secure the assist arm, then apply even pressure for the choke without moving up or down.
  9. If the opponent defends with both hands on the choking arm and chin down, punch one defending arm down and chop over it with the leg, using the hamstring to block the elbow and free the choking arm.
  10. Peel the remaining defending hand using the heel of the palm, pass it off, and either work against the chin or lock the arm straight to gain leverage for the choke.
  11. Finish the choke by pulling the opponent's head up, chopping with the choking arm, adjusting as necessary, and applying pressure.

Throughout the sequence, it's important to isolate the opponent's defending limbs and maintain control while progressing towards securing the RNC.
