About this video
Executing an Underhook De la Riva to Technical Stand Up:
- Start in the De la Riva guard with a grip on the opponent's lapel.
- If the opponent's leg feels heavy and you're unable to remove your hook, transition to an underhook on the same leg.
- With the underhook secured, grab the opponent's pants for a tight grip.
- Use your free leg to kick away from the opponent, creating space to come up on your elbow.
- Instead of pushing the opponent away, pull them towards you to maintain better control.
- Even if the opponent opens their legs, maintain the lapel grip and the pants grip to control their movement.
- If the opponent's knee is heavy, indicating a knee cut pass, break their angle by extending their leg away from you.
- Keep your foot on their hip to maintain distance, but ensure your De la Riva hook is tight and active to prevent them from posturing up and passing.
- While maintaining the grips and the hook, push on their knee to aid in standing up.
