About this video
Passing the De la Riva guard involves engaging the hips to break the opponent's grip on the pants. After breaking the grip, secure the opponent's lapel and hold onto their pants. Bring the knee behind the opponent's leg while ensuring to pinch the legs together. Fall to the side, extending the leg with the belly hook as if kicking.
- Break the opponent's grip on your pants and simultaneously grab their lapel.
- Hold the pants near the knee and suck down, positioning your knee behind the opponent's leg.
- Pinch your legs together to secure the position and fall to the side, extending the leg with the belly hook in a kicking motion.
- Keep the grip on the lapel and pants, step over the opponent's leg, and pinch the hip.
- From behind the opponent's knee, shift to the side, maintaining control of the lapel.
- Hug the opponent's head, grabbing the middle of their gi, and shift your hips to complete the pass.
- If the opponent's leg is trapped, step over it. If they disengage, extend their leg to stretch it out.
- From the lapel grip, cross your arm as you shift your hips, and perform a windshield wiper motion with your legs to finalize the pass.
