About this video
Executing a modified waiter sweep from the underhook De la Riva position involves several key steps:
- Start by establishing a Lapel guard and pulling the opponent diagonally towards you.
- If the opponent has poor balance and falls to one knee, maintain pressure and get underneath them while holding their pants.
- Weave your leg inside and pull the opponent back towards you to disrupt their balance further.
- Switch your grip to the opponent's other leg as you continue to pull them towards you.
- Execute the sweep by moving them to the opposite side, using the grip switch to facilitate the motion.
- After completing the sweep, you can either proceed with passing their guard or maintain control to secure two points.
- Even if the opponent tries to pinch your knee, the pressure remains the same, and it's recommended to go under for better control.
- As you weave your leg inside and pull the opponent, make sure to hold the outside of their knee tightly to prevent them from opening their leg.
- When kicking to execute the sweep, maintain a tight grip to ensure the opponent's leg doesn't open, which could compromise the sweep.
