About this video

Executing a modified waiter sweep from the underhook De la Riva position involves several key steps:

  1. Start by establishing a Lapel guard and pulling the opponent diagonally towards you.
  2. If the opponent has poor balance and falls to one knee, maintain pressure and get underneath them while holding their pants.
  3. Weave your leg inside and pull the opponent back towards you to disrupt their balance further.
  4. Switch your grip to the opponent's other leg as you continue to pull them towards you.
  5. Execute the sweep by moving them to the opposite side, using the grip switch to facilitate the motion.
  6. After completing the sweep, you can either proceed with passing their guard or maintain control to secure two points.
  7. Even if the opponent tries to pinch your knee, the pressure remains the same, and it's recommended to go under for better control.
  8. As you weave your leg inside and pull the opponent, make sure to hold the outside of their knee tightly to prevent them from opening their leg.
  9. When kicking to execute the sweep, maintain a tight grip to ensure the opponent's leg doesn't open, which could compromise the sweep.
