About this video
Execute a backwards scissor sweep from the Inside De la Riva position by maintaining the same grips throughout the technique. Begin by kicking forward to prompt your opponent to step forward. Then, cross your De la Riva hook at the same side of the leg you are controlling, using it as a support. It's crucial to maintain pressure and twist your opponent's knee without releasing the grip to prevent them from countering.
- Kick forward to make your opponent step forward, then cross your De la Riva hook on the same side of the leg you're controlling.
- Keep the pressure on the knee and maintain your grip to prevent your opponent from grabbing and applying pressure back.
- As you kick your opponent, they will adjust their grip, which is your cue to act. Kick them upward to force them to maintain their grip and prevent them from facing forward.
- When kicking, aim perpendicular to your body, not towards yourself, to keep your opponent off balance and uncomfortable.
- As your opponent attempts to recover, release the sleeve grip and immediately grab their lapel.
- Switch the hooks: the De la Riva hook goes up, and the other leg provides support, setting up a scissor sweep.
- Use the momentum as your opponent comes back to execute the scissor sweep, making them fall and allowing you to continue passing.
This technique utilizes the opponent's reaction to off-balance them and create an opportunity for a sweep, maintaining control and pressure throughout the movement.
