About this video
Executing a technical stand-up when facing a knee on belly situation in competition:
- When setting up your position and your opponent uses their elbow to push your leg and attempts a knee cut, be prepared to counter.
- As your opponent steps over, use your shin against their thigh to shift to their other leg, placing your shin right behind their knee.
- This movement resembles setting up an X-Guard, but it's not exactly an X-Guard. It's a similar setup used to sweep.
- From the De La Riva guard, as you feel the pressure, throw yourself under your opponent and position your shin behind their knee.
- Place your hand or forearm on their shin and start to kick away, using the foot that's behind their knee for leverage.
- Use your other leg to assist in the kick, creating more force to off-balance your opponent.
- Prop up on your forearm to facilitate the sweep. If your opponent falls, recover your leg first and establish top position.
- If your opponent remains standing, keep the leg that was behind their knee in place to maintain control and assist in completing the technical stand-up.
- Throughout the technique, maintain your grip and use your legs to kick your opponent away, aiding in the sweep and allowing you to transition to a standing position.
