About this video
Executing a rolling armbar from the Lapel Guard De La Riva position involves several key steps to off-balance and control the opponent:
- Begin by bringing the opponent diagonally towards you, ensuring their leg is out of the mat to create off-balance.
- Maintain the elevation of the opponent's leg to keep them off-balance throughout the technique.
- When the opponent uses their hand to push or grip your pants, you can choose to break the grip, but it's not necessary at this stage.
- Remove your De La Riva hook and explosively pop your hips upward while still pulling the opponent towards you.
- Reach your knee towards your glute and slide your shin across the opponent's face, placing your forehead on the mat to set up the armbar.
- Secure the armbar by keeping the grip tight on the lapel and ensuring your other leg is positioned correctly to finish the submission.
This technique is a variation of the armbar from the regular De La Riva, with the main difference being the use of the Lapel Guard De La Riva instead of the sleeve collar grip, known as the Sleeve De La Riva.
