About this video
Transitioning from Lapel Guard to a sweep using the opponent's momentum:
- Start by pulling the opponent forward from Lapel Guard to initiate an attack.
- If the opponent steps back to regain posture and relieve pressure, use this momentum to set up the next move.
- As the opponent steps back, cross your foot over and use their backward momentum to sweep them to the side.
- After the sweep, you have two options to continue:
- Option one is to come up on your leg and pass their guard.
- Option two, if you feel pressure and cannot sit up, is to fall back into Knee on Belly.
- For the Knee on Belly option, trap the opponent's leg, hold their pants tightly, kick out to break their grip, and then come up in the same position.
- When transitioning to X-Guard and the opponent resists by putting pressure back, insert your foot and use their momentum against them.
- Feel for the opponent's movement towards you and use your arm to assist in redirecting their momentum for the sweep.
- Take advantage of the opponent's momentum to either come up and grab their leg or cross their body to establish a dominant position.
