About this video
Counter the De La Riva sweep with a back step pass:
- Begin by breaking the De La Riva hook and the opponent's grip.
- Step over the opponent's leg and reach for their lapel.
- As the opponent attempts the sweep, place your knee on their chest for control.
- Simultaneously, put your hand on the mat to maintain balance.
- Transition the hand from the lapel to the opponent's pants.
- Execute a back step while maintaining control of the pants.
- Finish the pass by establishing knee on belly position.
This technique is simple and efficient, often used by Leandro Lo in competition.
