About this video

Passing the De La Riva guard when the opponent is setting up for a single leg involves a series of precise movements:

  1. Maintain balance and lower your base as the opponent controls your sleeve and attempts to kick your leg to set up the single leg.
  2. Position your shoulder on the opponent's ear, ensuring not to hug their head. Your arm should extend down, crossing their back.
  3. Place the hand that is being controlled by the sleeve onto the opponent's pants for grip.
  4. Execute a small back step to initiate the spin on the opponent, then sit down on your buttocks.
  5. Use your foot to create traction and turn your shoulder into the opponent's face to prevent them from turning towards you.
  6. Continue to hold the opponent's leg tightly, back step, and then 'turn the wheel' with their body by spinning them.
  7. Pinch the opponent's leg down with your legs and apply continuous pressure with your shoulder on their face to complete the pass.
