About this video
Transitioning to the waiter position from spider guard begins when the opponent has one knee on the mat and the other knee up. Maintain a grip on the collar and place the other leg between the opponent's legs, resting on their buttock.
- Scoop in and bring the opponent over you, releasing the spider guard grip on the sleeve to grab their leg.
- Switch the collar grip to the opponent's leg, establishing the waiter position.
- From the waiter position, you can sweep, transition to X-Guard, single-leg X guard, or 50-50 guard. The primary goal is to reach the 70-30 guard.
- Control the cuff of the opponent's leg and drive your shin under their knee, keeping the other foot dangling.
- Release the grip under the opponent's leg, push their belt, and adjust to create an angle by pushing their knee up and bending their leg.
- This position opens up various transitions, including taking the back, sweeping, or securing submissions.
