About this video

When attempting a triangle choke from the single leg X-guard and the opponent pushes the heel out, there is a transition to a submission for blue and purple belts. Starting from the single leg X-guard, control the pants and lock the elbow to secure the position. Bring the hips close together and place the shoulder on the mat to gain the necessary leverage.

For the submission, grab the near side lapel, not the far side, to allow for maximum rotation. Pinch the knees together and perform the drill to rotate, looking up the wall mats for the tap. If the opponent pushes the foot down and moves their hips over the leg, adjust by placing the leg between their legs and stepping on their hip bone. Slide the knee under their knee and hook the foot under their hamstring.

Adjust the lock, pinch the knees, and rotate while looking away. If the opponent tries to straighten their leg, transition to a belly-down ankle lock. Adjust the heel placement for a tight lock. To prevent the opponent from escaping, spread the legs wide and place a hand on the mat. Look up to the ceiling, bring shoulder blades together, and make a face to help apply maximum pressure. Lock the elbow to prevent the opponent from straightening their leg and secure the submission.
