About this video
Transitioning to a 70-30 guard for a submission when an opponent defends a belly-down ankle lock by rolling:
- Attempt a straight ankle lock, but if the opponent starts to roll to escape, follow them to maintain control.
- As the opponent rolls, insert a 70-30 hook instead of continuing with the ankle lock.
- Grab the opponent's pants with one hand and use the other hand to push their leg up, positioning their foot correctly for the submission.
- Adjust your position to ensure the 70-30 hook is in place, anticipating the opponent's turn.
- As the opponent rolls with you, maintain the 70-30 hook and prevent them from coming on top by keeping your foot in place to push against them.
- Control the cuff of the opponent's pants and slide your other hand under their knee to establish the 70-30 guard.
- Position the opponent's toes correctly, switch grips on the cuff if necessary, secure the position, and then execute the submission.
