About this video

Transitioning from Spider De La Riva to Single Leg X-Guard and attacking with a Straight Ankle Lock:

  1. Start with one foot in the Spider Guard and the other foot in a modified De La Riva position, using the pants grip for control.
  2. If the opponent's hand is on the collar and blocking omoplata or triangle attempts, step on the mat to break their grip.
  3. Use the Spider Guard to make the opponent step, pulling their leg in and placing your heel on their belt to enter the Spider Single Leg X-Guard.
  4. Whip your foot under their leg and use the classic sweep motion to off-balance and bring them down.
  5. If the opponent tries to escape by pointing their knee away and putting it on the mat, adjust to the 2.0 Ankle Lock by pushing them away and moving your hip at an angle.
  6. Feed your other hand under their ankle as far as possible and lock in a Rear Naked Choke grip.
  7. Focus on bringing the Achilles up while pulling your arm down to apply pressure and secure the lock.
  8. Ensure your thumb is up to create a hook that sets the blade of your wrist on the Achilles for an effective lock.
  9. If the opponent tries to turn inside, adjust your position to avoid reaping and potential disqualification in Gi competitions.
  10. Use the foot on the belt to push the opponent away and switch to the 2.0 Ankle Lock, bending their knee and securing the lock with a Rear Naked Choke grip.
  11. Apply the lock by bending the opponent's toes like a toe hold, combining the pressure of a straight ankle lock and a toe hook.

This sequence allows for a smooth transition from guard to a dominant leg lock position, with the ability to adjust and finish with a powerful Straight Ankle Lock.
