About this video

Transitioning from a failed Reverse De La Riva sweep to a Half Guard sweep:

  1. Start in Reverse De La Riva guard, attempting a sweep by controlling the opponent's arms, biceps, and triceps.
  2. As you try to lift the opponent for the sweep, they will jump forward to stop it.
  3. When the opponent stops the sweep, switch to Half Guard and control their arms again.
  4. Pass your hand under their arms to control their triceps.
  5. Pull the opponent forward and when they react, attempt to lift and jump with them.
  6. If the opponent jumps forward to block your sweep, control their arms and place their arms under yours.
  7. Use your foot on the ground to block their arm and place your other foot behind your arm, in front of their foot, to hinder their movement.
  8. Try to pull the opponent forward while squeezing your feet together.
  9. Push your arm forward and move your right foot back as you sit, placing your arm on the ground for support.
  10. Continue to pull the opponent with your shoulder and as you sit, place your shoulder on the ground.
  11. Complete the sweep by pulling the opponent over you and prepare to pass their guard.
