Here's a breakdown of the De La Riva Guard Side Smash Pass:
- Starting from the De La Riva guard, the first step is to remove the opponent's knee and point your own knee outwards. This is done by pulling the opponent's knee down and pointing your knee outwards.
- Next, control the opponent's knee by holding it close and pulling it downwards. As you do this, move your left knee slightly backwards and step forward, placing your knee over the opponent's shin.
- Bring your arms in and place your hand on the opponent's back. Move your knee off their shin and fall to the side. As you fall, ensure your head is down to disrupt their shin.
- Place your arm and control their head, connecting your hands together. Lower your arms to disrupt both their shins. Even if the opponent tries to recompose or move, maintain this control.
- Pass your left foot over their foot to disrupt their shin. Once you've disrupted their shin, place your right knee and change your base.
- After changing your base, return your left knee on top of their shin and stay in this position. The opponent will likely try to escape from your arms. When they do, stay by their side and stabilize.
This technique requires precise control and timing, but when executed correctly, it can effectively disrupt the opponent's guard and allow for a successful pass.
