About this video
Passing the Reverse De La Riva involves a series of grips and movements to counter the opponent's guard. Begin by placing the right hand on the opponent's belly and the left hand under their arm to control their wrist from the top. Push the opponent's hook down with the right hand to prevent them from spinning.
- As the opponent attempts to spin, transition the grip from their wrist to their ankle with the left hand, while dropping the right knee onto their calf.
- Step back with the left leg to create space and stability.
- Thread the right arm between the opponent's chest and leg, passing it all the way through to the other side.
- Use the right shoulder to push the opponent forward, off-balancing them.
- Follow the opponent's movement, dropping the elbow down to secure side control.
This sequence of controlling the wrist, pushing the hook, threading the arm, and using the shoulder to push, allows for a smooth pass to side control while countering the Reverse De La Riva guard.
