About this video

Transitioning to the back from Butterfly Guard:

  1. Start in Butterfly Guard with both feet between the opponent's legs, keeping your feet flexed for better control and leverage.
  2. When the opponent tries to control your neck, reciprocate by controlling their neck as well.
  3. Place your left hand under their triceps or around their neck on the same side you will execute the move.
  4. As you elevate your opponent, keep one foot inside between their legs and place the other foot outside.
  5. Slide your feet forward to initiate the elevation and maintain the inside foot to control the movement.
  6. Apply a belt grip and move your feet slightly to the side to prepare for the transition.
  7. After lifting the opponent, place your feet on top of theirs to control their leg movement.
  8. Force their feet down or to the side to off-balance them and facilitate the transition to the back.
  9. Connect your hands together and place your left foot on the ground to escape the triceps and position your feet beside their triceps.
  10. Push the opponent slightly down and then push them to the other side to complete the transition to their back.
