About this video
Executing a Reverse De La Riva backwards sweep involves a series of movements to off-balance and control the opponent.
- Start by controlling the opponent's arms while in the Reverse De La Riva guard.
- Attempt to lift the opponent to initiate a rotation, but anticipate their response to put weight back down.
- When the opponent resists by putting their weight back, elevate them again.
- As they counter, pull their arm towards you and place your other arm across to force their arm to the mat on the opposite side.
- Lift the opponent again, and as they react, control their arm and lift it as high as possible.
- After off-balancing the opponent and they fall, you can let go of their arm and control their leg from above.
- If the opponent tries to place their leg on the ground to counter, maintain control of the leg and lift their arm high.
- Once the opponent is off-balanced and falls, release their arm and control the leg on top, preparing to pass their guard.
Throughout the technique, it's important to control the opponent's limbs and use their reactions to your advantage to complete the sweep.
