About this video
Executing a half guard pass to back take involves a series of strategic grips and movements:
- Start in the half guard position and switch grips to prepare for the pass.
- Change the hand positioning and apply a slight raise of the leg to initiate the pass.
- As you begin to cut your knee across to pass the guard, be prepared for the opponent to bridge in an attempt to escape.
- When the opponent bridges, pass your right leg over their body while keeping your left hook inside.
- Bring the opponent to the opposite side to start taking their back.
- Connect your hands together and change your grip before moving your head to the other side, forcing the opponent to look away.
- Shake and slide your knee to create movement and space.
- As the opponent bridges, step your right leg over and maintain your left hook inside.
- Transition your hand to the front of the opponent's chest to bring them onto their side.
- Insert your second hook to secure the back position.
- Finally, switch your grips to a seatbelt hold to stabilize and control the back.
