About this video
Passing the De La Riva guard to set up a North-South choke involves the following steps:
- When the opponent plays De La Riva guard and wraps their arm inside your leg, control their leg to prevent them from moving their foot.
- Place your left hand on their arm to block it and step your left foot back to initiate the pass.
- Slide your foot under their leg to disrupt their De La Riva hook, making it difficult for them to move their right foot.
- Drop your weight down to control their leg, anticipating that the opponent will react by trying to pull your leg.
- As the opponent reacts, pass your arm over their body, placing your weight on them.
- Use your left arm to block their leg and then jump to the side, forcing the opponent to look away with your body on top of them.
- Move your foot to the opposite side and pass your arm over their shoulder.
- Join your hands together and drop your chest down, placing your right shoulder low to secure the North-South choke position.
