About this video
Executing a side roll sweep from De La Riva Guard:
- Start by playing De La Riva Guard with your right foot hooking inside the opponent's leg.
- Drop your foot down to block their knee, keeping your foot flexed to maintain a strong hook.
- Wait for the opponent to step forward, then connect your feet together, capturing both of their ankles.
- Lift the opponent by extending your legs, causing them to post their hand to maintain balance.
- Shift to your right side, stretching both legs to roll the opponent over.
- As the opponent falls, control their ankle, retract your right foot, and come on top to complete the sweep.
- Ensure your De La Riva hook is high and outside when controlling the opponent's ankle to prevent them from stepping back.
- If the opponent attempts to step back, use their motion to bring their leg forward and set up the sweep.
- When the opponent steps forward, secure their ankle, connect your feet, and lift to initiate the side roll.
- After the opponent posts and you lift them further, execute the roll to your right side and establish top position.
