About this video
Transitioning to the dogfight position from half guard with an underhook involves a series of steps focused on footwork and maintaining control of the opponent's leg.
- Start with an underhook and on your elbow, aiming to come up to your knees to gain strength in your position.
- Before attempting to rise, break your opponent's base using your free leg to place it over their leg while maintaining a hook with your other leg to prevent them from passing.
- Use your heel to rake their heel towards your buttocks, ensuring you create torque on their knee and disrupt their base. A successful rake is indicated by the movement of their other leg.
- After achieving a good rake, elevate the opponent's knee with your hips to remove your inside leg from underneath their knee, keeping your knees pinched to control their leg.
- Once the inside leg is removed, transition up to your knees behind your opponent, maintaining a tight underhook and control of their knee.
Practice this movement to secure the dogfight position before advancing to subsequent attacks.
