About this video

Executing an arm drag from half guard is an effective strategy when the opponent is stalling with their hand on your hip, preventing you from advancing. To perform this technique:

  1. Start by grabbing the opponent's wrist with your knuckles facing upwards and secure the back of their tricep with your other hand.
  2. Adjust your upper body position away from the opponent to create space, allowing their hand to come off your stomach.
  3. Use this space to push their arm across your body while simultaneously straightening your leg to aid in the arm drag.
  4. As you drag the arm, sit up and reach for the opponent's waist, preparing to transition to their back.
  5. If the opponent reacts by lifting their knee to prevent the back take, use this as an opportunity to set up a single leg takedown.
  6. From the single leg position, you can either stand up to finish the takedown or transition to other attacks previously covered in the instructional series.
  7. Remember, the arm drag can lead to an underhook, a single leg, or potentially taking the back if the opponent's reaction is slow.
  8. Be prepared for the opponent to defend, which will allow you to utilize one of the finishes discussed earlier in the series, such as transitioning to the dog fight position or completing the single leg takedown.
