About this video

Executing a barrel roll to the back when facing a knee cut pass:

  1. Start in a knee shield position with the opponent attempting a knee cut pass and their opposite leg off the mat.
  2. Attempt to pull the opponent's arm to off-balance them. If they maintain a strong base, abandon this approach.
  3. Push the opponent away while maintaining control with your knee shield.
  4. Open your elbow and turn your body fully to the opposite side, aiming to frame the back of their knee.
  5. Push their knee between your legs, transitioning your hand's frame to your knee's frame, ensuring your foot hooks their leg securely.
  6. Place your other foot behind their opposite leg, creating hooks with both feet.
  7. Kick forward to off-balance the opponent and transition to controlling their hips with both hands.
  8. If the opponent has one leg up, slide your hook down to their foot, kick it forward, and sit them down in your lap.
  9. From here, you can seek the belt and establish back control with hooks.
  10. If the opponent has both knees on the mat, you can pull them back, causing them to react and create an opening for you to ascend to an attacking position.

This technique is high risk but offers the high reward of taking the back.
