About this video

Submission setup from half guard with an overhook and butterfly hook:

  1. Start with an overhook on one arm, a butterfly hook with one leg, and the other leg trapping your opponent's leg in half guard. Pin your opponent's free hand to their hip.
  2. Begin to elevate your opponent. If they post their leg out to prevent the sweep and you feel unable to come up on your shoulder, keep their hand pinned at the hip.
  3. Free your leg that is in the butterfly hook and swing it out and over your opponent's shoulder to initiate a triangle choke.
  4. As your leg goes over, release the opponent's wrist and simultaneously free your other leg from the butterfly hook.
  5. Cross your legs to secure the triangle choke position. Rotate if necessary to adjust the angle.
  6. Instead of moving the opponent's arm across for the triangle, grab your shin and place your foot on their hip. Hug under their leg for leverage.
  7. Swing your leg over to lock the triangle choke. Squeeze your legs together to finish the submission.

Key points include maintaining control of the opponent's hand until your leg is almost completely over for the triangle, and using the foot on the hip to create the angle needed to lock in the choke effectively.
