About this video
Counter the knee cut pass by transitioning to a single leg takedown:
- Start in the knee shield position and shoot your other leg to control your opponent's knee, losing your knee shield in the process.
- As your opponent steps up and drives their knee into you, flatten out and place your foot behind their butt, hooking their leg.
- Prevent their knee from cutting across to the other side by keeping it down with your hook.
- If you're flattened out and unable to push their knee down, use the hooking leg to create an opportunity to wrestle up.
- Drive off the floor with your free foot and extend the hooking leg to force your opponent to post their hands on the mat.
- Immediately sit up, come to your knees, and find yourself in a wrestling position ready to execute a takedown.
- For a variation, sit up first as if attempting to come up, which will cause your opponent to drive forward, then fall back and use the momentum to wrestle up to your knees.
- Once up, grab the single leg, stand, and finish the takedown.
