About this video
Initiate the Reverse De La Riva guard by hooking your foot inside the opponent's leg when they attempt a knee cut pass. Ensure a strong hook by being slightly on your side rather than flat on your back.
- From an open guard, as the opponent steps in for a knee cut, immediately place your hook on the back of their knee.
- Control the opponent's leg by reaching over it with your hand.
- To execute the tripod sweep, place your other foot on the opponent's hip.
- Kick with the leg that is on the hip, while simultaneously releasing the Reverse De La Riva hook and hooking the opponent's opposite foot.
- With both of the opponent's feet trapped, execute the sweep by kicking, causing them to fall.
- As you come up, maintain control of the opponent's leg to prevent them from standing up.
- Transition to your knees and move into a knee-cutting position yourself.
This tripod sweep from Reverse De La Riva is effective and carries a low risk of counter-attack.
