About this video
This tutorial focuses on the Heel Hook technique, specifically on how to optimize the leg position to capture the heel. Here are the steps:
- When executing an outside pass, such as a bullfight or leg drag, your opponent will need to turn their knee and foot up to recover their guard. This is the optimal position to start attacking the heel.
- Instead of waiting until your legs are in place, aim to capture the heel as soon as possible and worry about your leg position second.
- Execute a quick leg drag type pass by throwing your opponent's legs to the side and stepping your leg in.
- As your opponent attempts to recover, they will turn into you. Squat down and capture their heel in this position.
- Hold onto their knee and as you fall back, have your heel hook grip in place, pinching your knees.
- If your opponent tries to hide their foot, the heel hook is already in place and they won't be able to.
- If your opponent tries to turn to hide their foot, bring your top leg over and go into the heel hook as done before.
- If your opponent turns the other way, pass your inside leg over. As they rotate, pass this leg inside and lock over their hip. Now you have a 50-50 leg heel hook and can get your finish.
Remember, anytime you're passing to the outside of your opponent's legs, always look to capture the heel grip first and then fall back into your opponent's legs, worrying about your leg position second.
