About this video
From a position where both of your opponent's knees are pinned to one side, a smash pass can be initiated. Here's how:
- Start by driving your weight backwards and positioning your chest over your opponent's knee. Lower yourself down and apply pressure over your opponent's knees. Keep one hand around their waist and the other monitoring their legs to prevent them from inverting and entering on your back leg.
- Secure a C-grip on your opponent's knee and pummel your leg around to start the pass. If your opponent props up on their elbow to attempt a recovery, reach for their wrist with both hands and pull it towards you to collapse them down to their shoulder.
- Keep hold of the wrist with your right hand, release the other hand and move to your opponent's shoulder. Flick their arm over your head as you move around to their back.
- Maintain open-handed grips, one hand on the wrist and the other over the shoulder. Slide your knee up, place your elbow on top of your own thigh, and bring your leg over to initiate a back kick.
- With the grip on your opponent's wrist, you can immediately trap their arm by sticking your heel in their forearm. This gives you an advantage as you can now work with two arms against their one.
Remember, the key to a successful smash pass is to stay low on your opponent's body, control their knees, and prevent them from inverting and attacking your legs.
