About this video

Executing a knee cut pass from a one knee in, one knee out position:

  1. Establish a one knee in, one knee out position, having already beaten the bottom leg. The main challenge is clearing the top knee and then the hands.
  2. Place one hand on your partner's hip and the other underneath their knee. Ensure your knee is turned in slightly, driving weight forward to prevent falling backwards.
  3. To clear the knee shield, rotate your partner's hips towards the ceiling. This allows you to pass your elbow inside and start the pass.
  4. Rotate your partner's hips up, pass your elbow inside and connect your elbow to your leg. This makes it difficult for your partner to reclaim the knee position.
  5. Track your partner's knee with your shoulder to block any movement. Get your knee to the mat and place your hand over your partner's face, placing your hand on the mat.
  6. Keep your right side heavy and drive your knee forward. As you complete the pass, walk your hand in the opposite direction to misalign your partner's spine while your right knee pushes their hips back.
  7. This opens up the entire side of your partner's body to pass. Drop your knee inside, driving your partner's knees back. This makes it difficult for them to recover.
  8. Repeat the process: hand on the hip, hand on the bottom knee, rotate your partner's knees towards the ceiling, pass your elbow inside, beat their arms, hand on the mat, drop your knee to the mat, walk your hand up, push their head up, drive your knee back, and turn their knees in the opposite direction.

After successfully executing the knee cut pass, you've passed your partner's guard and are ready to work.
