About this video

From a De La Riva position, there are several attacking options:

  1. Firstly, you can step over the opponent's leg, slide your knee across and enter into a knee slice position. However, this can be difficult if the opponent is very flexible or playing a wide knee.
  2. If the knee slice is not possible, you can hit a duck under on the opponent's leg. Clear the De La Riva, step back, open the opponent's leg up and slide your head into the space between their calf and hamstring. Take a seat and slide your knee around their hip, entering a leg drag type position.
  3. From the leg drag position, you can bring your arm out, staple the opponent's knee to your hip, and start to come up and attack. However, if there is too much space, the opponent may turn their knee into you.
  4. If the opponent turns their knee into you, it's a perfect opportunity to bring your leg around the corner, lock your legs, and attack with an inside heel hook.
  5. If the opponent hides their foot and turns in the opposite direction, you can take your top leg out, fold it under their butt, come up, grab their wrist and slide your knee around the corner. This gives you an opportunity to attack the opponent's back.
  6. Another option from the De La Riva position is to stuff the opponent's foot, slide your knee in the opposite direction, and start a knee cut. If this is not possible, you can clear the hook, duck under the opponent's leg, and slide your knee inside. From here, you can pass the guard, control the opponent's hips, and come up in a leg drag.
  7. If the opponent starts to frame and turn into you, you can take your leg out, lock your legs on the inside, and attack with an inside heel hook. If the opponent hides their heel, you can take your top leg out, bring it back to the starting position, and start to come up, grab their wrist and take their back.
