About this video
Executing a sweep from the De La Riva guard to counter the side smash pass:
- Maintain a strong De La Riva hook with pressure in the shin and thigh against the opponent's leg to off-balance them and prevent them from breaking the hook.
- When the opponent attempts to pinch your leg down to pass, bring them towards you to further off-balance them.
- As the opponent tries to regain balance by moving backward, grab both of their ankles.
- Lift your knees to initiate the sweep, using the leg that was behind their knee to help bring them down.
- Release the De La Riva hook and bring it to the inside as you sit up.
- Scoot back and come on top to secure the sweep and gain a dominant position.
This technique effectively counters the side smash pass attempt, allowing you to off-balance the opponent and secure a sweep.
