About this video
Executing an Omoplata from the De La Riva guard with same side grips involves several key steps:
- Maintain a tight grip with one hand on the opponent's sleeve and keep it close to your hips to break their posture.
- Use the De La Riva hook effectively to manage the opponent's free hand, preventing them from pushing your leg away.
- Push the opponent with your other leg while keeping the De La Riva hook tight. Turn your knee inward to twist their leg, which naturally opens their arm.
- Slide your shin across their body to transition into the Omoplata position.
- Switch grips to grab their belt, preventing them from executing a front roll to escape.
- Secure the Omoplata submission, ensuring you do not release the sleeve grip until you are close enough to switch to the belt grip.
- If the opponent attempts a front roll while you're applying the Omoplata, maintain the sleeve grip to transition into an armbar.
